The Tax Leadership Programme

Applications for this programme are now closed.

The Tax Leadership Programme is a four-year programme which is structured to provide an optimal range of experience on which to base a career as a tax professional. The first two years will focus on building necessary technical knowledge, by both studying for the ACA qualification and on-the-job learning, alongside the broader development framework provided by the FLDP.

Following this will be a spell of getting to grips with the way the tax function manages the Income Statement and Balance Sheet tax accounts, followed by development of your advisory skills by providing direct support to one of Barclays’ business lines. Armed with the knowledge and experience you will acquire, you will be well prepared to drive the future direction of your career.

During your time on the Tax Leadership Programme, you will gain a good understanding of the financial services industry, Barclays’ various business lines and the tax issues facing these areas. You will also gain a range of invaluable skills and experiences, from technical excellence and commercial awareness through to being at the forefront of legislative or business change and driving business strategy. You will also have the opportunity to build networks across the Bank and both learn from – and influence – key stakeholders.

Throughout the Programme and beyond, specialist tax training will be available to ensure you develop and maintain the technical knowledge required for a career in tax. On top of that, non technical training will be available to help you develop the professional skills required to bring out your leadership potential.

Professional Qualifications:

Professional training is fundamental to your development and the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) qualification has long been regarded as one of the premier certifications on offer. It’s a three-year course with a syllabus covering tax, business management, business finance, auditing and financial reporting.

There’s a lot to take in when you start the ACA, with classroom studies, home study and examinations (a total of 15 papers across three years), all to be fitted around your day-to-day job. But rest assured that all that hard work will be worth it in the long term. You’ll find yourself in great demand with an ACA qualification under your belt, whether you want to work your way up through Tax or into other fields such as Finance, Treasury, Internal Audit or Risk.

You’ll find all the information you need about the ACA and becoming a chartered accountant here.
